Theakine® IBS-C is the project for which Adamas Biotech® has been awarded a non-repayable grant of €425,700 from the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), a research center coordinated by the National Research Council (CNR).
Today, Adamas Biotech obtained official registration from the Italian Ministry of Health for its second product, Theakine® IBS-C, an innovative food supplement intended for individuals affected by irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and, more broadly, for gut health.
Theakine® IBS-C is a two-component food supplement formulated with Theaphenon E®, a patented green tea extract, and a probiotic blend. This combination is designed to address multiple aspects of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C), supporting intestinal well-being through a synergistic interaction between polyphenols and beneficial microorganisms. Theakine® IBS-C is grounded in preclinical and clinical studies, as well as advanced research in the field of gut health. Theaphenon E®, distinguished by the highest degree of purity available on the market and the absence of caffeine, exerts a beneficial prebiotic effect on the gut microbiota by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. In addition, green tea catechins help strengthen the intestinal barrier and reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, with a positive impact on bowel regularity and on the quality of life of patients with IBS-C.
Theakine® IBS-C is the project through which Adamas Biotech® was awarded, in November 2024, funding under the call issued by the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC) (see press release), Italy’s first national research and innovation center dedicated to biodiversity and coordinated by the National Research Council (CNR), securing a non-repayable grant of €425,700 against a total project budget of €597,500. The project, which forms part of the initiatives funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) – Next Generation EU, is scheduled for completion by 31 August 2025, with a possible extension through 30 November 2025. This recognition underscores the scientific excellence and innovative value of the research conducted by Adamas Biotech in the nutraceutical sector.
Filippo Surace, Non-Executive Chairman of Adamas Biotech®, stated: “The official registration with the Italian Ministry of Health allows us to begin marketing Theakine® IBS-C on the Italian market as a food supplement, providing further evidence of the strength of our business model. Also, thanks to the support of the grant awarded by the National Biodiversity Future Center of the CNR, we have developed a cutting-edge nutraceutical solution for gut health, which we now aim to bring to market through a commercial partnership.”
Having obtained official registration from the Italian Ministry of Health for Theakine® IBS-C, Adamas Biotech® is now ready to begin commercializing the product, including through the pursuit of strategic partnerships with companies active in the nutraceutical and gastroenterology sectors that may be interested in acquiring a license to distribute it. Adamas Biotech® will focus primarily on identifying collaborations with qualified partners to ensure the product is effectively brought to market.
