Adamas Biotech Files a Patent Application for an Innovative Gut Health Solution

Adamas Biotech® announces that it has filed a patent application with the Italian Patent and Trademark Office for an innovative solution for gut health.

The solution consists of a kit for the treatment and prevention of intestinal dysfunctions and inflammation, in particular functional dyspepsia (FD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Its primary, though not exclusive, application lies in the field of food supplements based on green tea leaf dry extract. The kit comprises a first product based on tea catechins, known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and a second product based on probiotics, which, in addition to supporting the well-being and balance of the intestinal bacterial flora, also tend to enhance the properties of the catechins themselves.

The innovation underlying the solution developed by Adamas Biotech stems from the insight of its researchers that the combination of catechins and probiotics generates a synergistic effect capable of promoting intestinal homeostasis and contributing to the treatment of disorders associated with the gut–brain axis. Their combined administration, made possible through an integrated kit, is in fact more effective than taking the individual components separately.

Filippo Surace, Non-Executive Chairman of Adamas Biotech®, commented: “This new patent application represents a strategic step in strengthening the protection of a highly innovative solution, fully aligned with the emerging needs of the gut health market. The synergistic combination of catechins and probiotics developed by Adamas Biotech® provides a concrete response to the growing demand for integrated, scientifically validated approaches to the treatment of disorders related to the gut–brain axis. This initiative confirms our ability to identify high-potential trends and translate them into patentable technologies with both clinical and commercial impact.”

For the filing of the patent application, the startup made use of the “3i Voucher – Investing in Innovation” incentive promoted by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy and managed by Invitalia.

In recent months, Adamas Biotech® has obtained official registration from the Ministry of Health for two of its supplements: on 11 November 2024 for Theakine® Prost, a food supplement based on green tea catechins dedicated to prostate well-being and associated disorders, and on 28 February 2025 for Theakine® IBS-C, an innovative food supplement developed for individuals affected by irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and, more broadly, for gut health.
